No one knows better than Morgan Evans that a long road lays ahead of folks who dream of becoming a country music star. Travelling great distances to play in front of small crowds is a right of passage for any country music hopeful.
Morgan and his band started their journey chasing gigs around Sydney and Newcastle, with just a handful of songs and a small fan base to their name.
It was a hard slog, with Morgan handling all the band’s marketing, management and promotional activities. A tough ask when you’re also trying to focus on songwriting and delivering a standout performance every night.
In 2006 Morgan made the life changing decision to enter the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition. His career was kicked into overdrive overnight in 2007 when he was announced as the overall winner at the Grand Final. This milestone victory took Morgan all the way to Nashville USA, where he performed at the CMA Global Artist Showcase and the CMA Festival.
During his time abroad Morgan was granted access to a world class recording studio, where he laid down the tracks for his debut single 'Big Skies which was released through Sony BMG.
'Big Skies' jumped to the #1 spot on Australia's National CMC Chart, launching Morgan from battling musician to the hottest new property in Australian country music today.
The recognition and acclaim that comes with winning the Telstra Road to Tamworth has also helped Morgan book a host of high profile gigs, including playing at the CMC Rocks the Snowys festival and opening for country music legends Brooks and Dunn at Sydney’s Acer Arena and Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena in front of 22,000 people.
This year Morgan’s career continues to go from strength to strength, with a rapidly expanding fan base and an eagerly anticipated album in the works. Visit www.myspace.com/morgev to get all the latest touring news and behind the scenes podcasts from Morgan himself.
